Description

Styled in silver, the SPL Elector is a high-quality preamp for use in hi-fi scenarios. The unit is an all-analog take on the Director Mk2, giving you the same VOLTAiR technology and internal circuit topography. Use the Elector with your tape machines, casette recorders, and CD players.

With 3 pairs of RCA and XLR jacks, you can make use of either balanced or unbalanced connections. Connect power amplifiers to the XLR jacks, or use a headphone amplifier with the RCA direct outputs. Additionally, the Elector has a Tape Monitor send and return loop. These use to be a mainstay of the '70s and '80s, but are not usually found on current designs. Using this insert path, you can put your favorite equalizers or outboard processors into the signal to tune the sound for the room. A level calibration switch near the Tape Monitor section allows you to compensate for the levels of consumer gear.

The front of the unit offers a six-way input selector switch, a promient aluminum volume knob, and a pair of VU meters for monitoring the sound. You can calibrate the VU meters for either 6 or 12 dB of headroom.

Multiple Connnections Possible

The Elector is a stereo preamplifier that provides connectivity for six analog (three stereo) sources in the form of balanced XLR inputs, while the other three stereo input channels are standard RCA inputs. Power amplifiers or active loudspeakers can be connected via balanced XLRs and you can connect the Direct Out to your own headphone amplifier.

Prominent Volume Dial

Volume is controlled in the 120V rail VOLTAiR volume stage and an ALPS RK27 Big Blue potentiometer, providing a sturdy feel and excellent channel matching.

Amp Control

Up to two power amplifiers can be wire-linked and triggered for simultaneously switching power on/off with the Elector. To achieve this, connect the AMP CTL sockets with 3.5mm mono-jack cables to the power amplifier. The Elector sends out a 12V trigger voltage on the sockets A & B to switch on or off one or two stereo amps or two mono blocks.

IR Remote Control

Volume can be remotely controlled using any existing infrared (IR) remote control.
