Description

Reverend’s renowned Mercalli bass line enters a new era with the Mercalli 4 Blackout, a supercharged evolution of its 4-string predecessor. This powerhouse pairs a sleek ebony fretboard with a classic korina body and a striking 5-piece maple/walnut neck. Like the original, it draws inspiration from vintage greats while pushing forward with innovation, thanks to its custom Thick Brick and Split Brick pickups that deliver punishing precision and low-end authority. Premium details round it out: a high-mass bridge for enhanced clarity and sustain, a Pure Tone jack for rock-solid signal, and aircraft-grade Hipshot Ultralite tuners for stability without the weight. Put your fingers (or pick) to the Mercalli 4 Blackout and prepare for seismic lows with unrelenting punch.

Custom-built pickup power

Reverend pickups are custom crafted to ensure the best tonal complement to their respective instrument. In the case of the Mercalli 4 Blackout, the Split Brick in the neck position enhances the output of highs and lows — like a P Bass pickup but cleaner and beefier. Conversely, the Thick Brick in the bridge position produces warm mids with a sharp attack, much like an active pickup, but more organic. Both pickups work exceptionally well together, and with a pickup pan control, forming the right balance for any musical situation comes easily.

Rich, resounding tonewoods

Like every Reverend instrument, the Mercalli 4 Blackout features a korina body that produces warm, lively tones and rich harmonics. The 5-piece maple/walnut neck means lightweight functionality and a stunning vintage appearance. This iteration of the Mercalli trades the usual rosewood fingerboard for 21 frets of evocative, expressive ebony — a tonewood celebrated for its unceasing power and precision that punches through every register, with enduring sustain and kaleidoscopic presence. Tie it all together with a 6-bolt neck plate and you’re ready to log some serious gigging hours or stroll into your next studio session with full confidence.

Meticulous attention to detail

With the Reverend Mercalli 4 Blackout's 3-string tree, Pure Tone jack, and high-mass bridge, you’ll soon realize that the devil is truly in the details. Take an even closer look and you’ll notice leading technician Zack Green’s handwritten serial number and the initialed seal of approval that's stamped on every Reverend instrument that's left their doors since 1998. Guitarists and bassists here who have plugged in a Reverend instrument know the name is akin to detail, precision, and decisive dedication.
